"Seeing Eye Computer" will verbally announce the caller on incoming calls that have caller ID information. The program also has callback and call blocking features. Verbal messages can be tailored for your favorite callers. This includes "out of area" calls where the caller's name is not available. The program comes with a phone book to keep track of and dial your favorite numbers. Like all good but not great programs, "Seeing Eye Computer" has an uninstall program.

The
Email Checker works in the same way as the caller ID. If you use it, it will check for new email at specified time intervals. If it finds a new message, it will announce the sender and (if you want) read the subject line.

EZreader is a simple little routine to read text aloud in nearly any window.

It's this easy to work:
Click on "Read Text" in the Settings menu.
Highlight the text you would like read in any window, email letter, web page...
Click the > button in the EZreader to start reading.

DynaWares' Seeing Eye Computer: This program is identical to "DynaWares' Seeing Eye Computer except that it recognizes Voice Commands.

You will NOT have to register again for these versions.

The Reason this is only a preview version is that the Help File and "what's this" Help is not Completed!
To add your Voice Commands click on "Edit Voice Commands" in the popup menu. You will see something like this:

First, click the "Add" button to add a new command.
Next, enter the command you wish to speak.
Then"Drag and Drop" the program's name from Windows Explorer.
If you wish you can enter a word or phrase you would like the computer to say.
Click "OK" and the program should be able to recognize the command.
There is also a verbal "Standby" mode.

Sending text strings (sendkeys) is just as easy.

This program also has a Screen Saver that will let you know if the program is listening for verbal commands ad if it monitoring Caller ID information.

A Word about Modems:
Many Modems say on the box if they are Caller ID compatible. However, many caller ID compatible modems don't advertise it. "Seeing Eye Computer" will test all your modems and tell you if they are or are not compatible. If, however, You wish to check your Modem before downloading the program this little utility will check your Modem for you.

If you are connected to the Internet with the Modem you want to monitor it will not be available for "Seeing Eye Computer". You must disconnect form the Internet first. This applies to any program that is using the Modem. The reverse applies: If this program has control of the modem you will not be able to connect to the Internet with it. (In my house I have two modems in the computer so I can still get online while monitoring the phone. This may also work if you have a Cable Modem, but this has not been tested.)

Caller ID Modem Checker

This simple program will check your Modem to see if it is Caller ID compatible."
If you have installed the Visual Basic 6 Runtime Files an have MSCOMM32.OCX installed I would recommend just downloading the executable
ModemCheck.exe 32K.
If not, download the full package ModChkInst.exe 1.43 Meg.

To uninstall the program go to Windows Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs --> ModemCheck --> Add/Remove

Modem Checker Usage/Instructions

Supported Locations:

Seeing Eye Computer was written to support CLASS protocol. This "should" work anywhere in North America.
The United Kingdom uses CLI protocol, from what I can determine "Seeing Eye Computer" will work here, but it may always anounce the phone number as well as the Caller's name.
In Japan CLIP protocol is used. I can't find out anything about it so I just don't know how it will work.
When (if they aren't yet) Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands support CallerID The CLI protocol will be used. I would expect it to work the same as in the United Kingdom.
If anyone can provide me with more information on CLI and CLIP protocols I would be able to start making sure "Seeing Eye Computer" supports them. I would also greatly appreciate the information.

Error: When trying to run the program for the first time if it gives you an error "...automation not supported...":
The automation error is caused by not having the "voice" installed.
There are 2 solutions:
I. Run the install again. When you see a window saying "The Speech Engine, Control Panel, and at least one voice are required for the program to run. If unsure, install it. It won't hurt anything. After all, it's from Micrsoift." make sure you click the Install button.
II. Or... There are 2 programs in the directory you installed the program into (probably "C:\Program Files\"Seeing Eye Computer"") These programs are called "spchpcl.exe" and "msttsf22L.exe". Double click them both to execute them. Then try running CallerID again.

If after installing this program you get an error when trying to run Adobe Acrobat Reader version 3:
Most of what gets installed are new Micrsoft Modules. It's nearly impossible to determine how this may affect an older program. There is one cop-out kind of solution that I can offer. A link to the latest version of
Acrobat Reader (version 5). It's a free download. I ran this on Windows 98 and it worked fine.

Talkworks
Only one program can use a specific modem at one time. So, Talking CalledID and Talkworks cannot run at the same time unless you have 2 modems in the computer. I run 2 modems in mine so that I can be on the net and still run "Seeing Eye Computer". I will attempt to contact Symantec Corporation to see if they would be willing to let our programs link up and share the modem information (this is easily done and "Seeing Eye Computer" is all set up for it). It would be great if our programs could play nice together. But to be realistic, the chances of Symantec Corporation being free to do something like this are very remote. I'm not knocking them, corperations just can't respond the way an individual can.
